CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Rajasthan : Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar has sparked a political controversy by proposing the removal of school textbook content that he claims “glorifies” the Nehru-Gandhi family. He argued that educational material should present an unbiased version of history and not serve as a means to promote any particular political lineage.
Dilawar stated that certain chapters and sections in school textbooks overly emphasize the contributions of former Prime Ministers like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi, while neglecting other prominent national leaders and freedom fighters. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive historical perspective that equally highlights the roles of lesser-known but significant figures in India’s independence and development.
This proposal has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, who view it as a politically motivated attempt to rewrite history. Congress leaders accused the BJP-led Rajasthan government of trying to erase the legacy of its political rivals for ideological reasons.
The minister, however, maintained that the goal is to “balance the narrative” in educational content and prevent the politicization of young minds. The education department is currently reviewing the textbooks, and any revisions will be implemented in upcoming academic sessions.
