CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Lucknow. Amid the results of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, cabinet minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party president Om Prakash Rajbhar has targeted Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Taking a dig over the Congress performance, he asked whether Akhilesh Yadav had congratulated his friend Rahul Gandhi on the election results. Rajbhar’s comment came amid discussion over a possible political alliance between the SP and Congress and seat-sharing between the two parties.
Questions raised over Congress’s zero performance
Rajbhar wrote on social media platform X that in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress did not even find candidates in several places, and where its candidates were in the fray, the party did not succeed. He also referred to the Legislative Council elections in Karnataka, where the Congress faced defeat on all four seats. On the basis of these results, Rajbhar questioned the Congress’s electoral position.
Advice to Akhilesh on seat-sharing
In his post, Rajbhar said the Congress considers itself a major ally of the SP and may demand more than 200 of the 403 seats in the coming Assembly election. He advised Akhilesh Yadav to keep the Congress’s MLC election performance in mind during seat negotiations. He also questioned how active Congress leaders were in supporting SP candidates when they were contesting the election.
Taking a swipe at the relationship between the Congress and the SP, Rajbhar said that despite demands for a large share of seats, support was not visible at the expected level. His statement may further sharpen the political debate over electoral coordination between the two parties.
Reference to SP’s gains in the MLC election
In the election for 11 seats of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, the SP won several seats, while the BJP also put up a strong performance. Rajbhar congratulated Akhilesh Yadav on his party’s performance and, in the same message, targeted the Congress. On the other hand, Akhilesh Yadav congratulated the winning candidates and workers in the election and appealed to supporters to share their happiness peacefully.
Rajbhar’s comment has come at a time when political discussions are continuing among opposition parties over seat-sharing and mutual cooperation ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. However, the final seat-sharing arrangement between the SP and the Congress for the coming election has not yet been decided.
