A court has sent Rajiv Kumar alias Rajiv Arora alias Rajiv Rangeela, among the main accused in the alleged medical equipment procurement scam of about Rs 700 crore linked to Delhi’s Directorate General of Health Services, to four days’ custody of the Anti-Corruption Branch. The Rouse Avenue court issued the order on September 25. He had appeared before the Anti-Corruption Branch on September 24, after which he was arrested.
According to the investigating agency, Rajiv Rangeela is accused of alleged irregularities in government medical procurement through fake companies and manipulation of the tender process. The agency says it wants to obtain information during interrogation about the alleged methods adopted in the procurement process, the role of other accused, financial transactions and missing documents.
In this case, the ACB has already taken action against former DGHS officer Dr Vatsala Agarwal and others. In September, the ACB also filed a chargesheet of about 12,000 pages in the case. The investigation is examining alleged irregularities related to prices and the tender process in the procurement of medical equipment and other health materials.
The ACB alleges that tender conditions and equipment specifications were allegedly manipulated to benefit certain companies and suppliers. However, the final conclusion on the allegations in the case will emerge only after the judicial process is completed. The court has sent Rajiv Rangeela to ACB custody until September 29.
