Mau. In Mau district of Uttar Pradesh, a murder accused allegedly plotted his own death to evade the law and the court, in a conspiracy that also surprised the police. Raju alias Rajkumar Rajbhar allegedly had a photograph of a body lying on a pyre created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) to prepare false proof of his death. He then allegedly had a goat cremated in his place and tried to prove himself dead through a fake death certificate. After remaining absconding for nearly one and a half years, police have arrested him.
According to police, Raju alias Rajkumar Rajbhar is accused of shooting dead Yogesh Singh in 2016. A case had been registered against Raju and his friend Sudarshan Rajbhar in the matter. The case was being heard in court. It is alleged that, fearing conviction, Raju planned to have himself declared dead.
Police said the accused conspired on May 30, 2025, in Ghazipur to stage his death. An AI-generated picture of a person lying on a pyre and alleged photographs linked to the cremation were used in an attempt to make the death story appear real. Documents related to death and cremation were then prepared. The accused allegedly obtained a death certificate and also submitted it in court.
Police officials said Raju traded in the stock market and had taken money from several people in the name of investment. Police suspect that, along with avoiding legal action, he also wanted to escape financial liabilities.
Raju was caught when he came to meet his wife and son. Mau police, the SOG and the surveillance team arrested him near the Khwajajahanpur area on October 25. Police have also registered a fresh case against him over the alleged fake documents. The further judicial process will now continue in the old murder case. The police allegations will be confirmed in court on the basis of evidence and hearings.
