CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners, raising the allowance from 58% to 60%. The revised DA will be implemented retrospectively from January 1, 2026, bringing financial relief to nearly 16 lakh beneficiaries across the state.
The Tamil Nadu government stated that the decision aligns the state’s DA structure with the revised allowance already announced by the Central Government for its employees. Officials said the move reflects the government’s commitment to supporting public servants amid rising inflation and living costs.
According to reports, the DA hike will increase the state’s annual financial burden by approximately ₹1,230 crore. However, the Vijay-led administration assured that adequate funds would be allocated while continuing welfare initiatives for employees and pensioners.
The announcement is being viewed as one of the first major administrative and financial decisions of the newly formed Tamil Nadu government under Vijay. Political observers believe the move could strengthen support among government employees and reinforce the administration’s welfare-focused image.
