CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh shared memories of his association with Modi, recalling his journey from an organisational leader to the Prime Minister of India. Singh described several encounters spanning Modi’s years as Gujarat Chief Minister and his later national political career.
Singh recalled Modi’s visit to Chhattisgarh in 2003 for the swearing-in ceremony of the state’s first BJP government. According to Singh, Modi, who was then Gujarat Chief Minister, chose to sit among party workers on the ground instead of remaining on the designated stage. Singh also remembered Modi’s presence during the launch of Chhattisgarh’s subsidised rice scheme in 2007.
He also referred to the 2014 election campaign in Ambikapur, where a replica of the Red Fort was created for Modi’s programme. Singh said this became an important memory associated with Modi’s subsequent journey to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Singh further recalled Modi’s interactions with children in Dantewada in 2015 and his meeting with 104-year-old Kunwar Bai in Dongargarh in 2016. He also spoke about Modi’s visits to tribal areas and his interactions with local communities.
The remarks were shared as part of birthday-related reflections on Modi’s long political association with Chhattisgarh.
