New Delhi: Delhi Police, with the cooperation of Interpol and central investigating agencies, have succeeded in bringing back to India an accused who was absconding in a rape case from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Sajeer Palli Mooppan alias Sajeer PM, a resident of Kannur in Kerala. He was brought to Delhi on November 4. He had been living in Dubai for the past several months.

According to police, the case dates to October 2025. It is alleged that during a birthday party of company employees in the Punjabi Bagh area, a 20-year-old woman was given alcohol and an intoxicating substance. The accused then allegedly took her to a hotel in Karol Bagh, where she was raped. It is also alleged that identity documents of a third person were used at the hotel to conceal identity.

During the investigation, it emerged that the accused had left India for the UAE on January 5, 2026. Delhi Police then initiated international-level action to trace him. A reference was sent to Interpol through Bharatpol on April 30, and a Red Corner Notice was issued against the accused on July 7.

The CBI coordinated with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of External Affairs and the concerned authorities in the UAE to complete the process for his arrest and extradition. A three-member team of Delhi Police then reached the UAE, took custody of the accused and returned to India.

A chargesheet has already been filed in the competent court in the case. The accused will now face further legal proceedings in India.
