CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A medical case that surprised doctors came to light in Delhi during the infertility investigation of a 26-year-old man. Structures similar to a uterus and fallopian tubes were present in the young man’s body. The examination indicated that it could be an extremely rare congenital condition called Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS).
According to the report, the man was suffering from primary infertility and no sperm were found in his semen, a condition known as azoospermia. The examination also found that both testicles were not in their normal position and were located inside the abdomen. Doctors then conducted MRI and genetic tests. The MRI showed a uterus-like structure and fallopian tube-like ducts inside the pelvis, while the genetic test found his chromosome pattern to be 46,XY.
During laparoscopic surgery, doctors confirmed a small and underdeveloped uterus-like structure and Mullerian structures attached to both testicles. According to doctors, the testicles had been severely damaged and had shrunk because they had remained inside the abdomen for a long time. In such cases, the risk of testicular cancer may also increase.
PMDS is often detected in childhood when the testicles do not descend. However, in this case, it was discovered at the age of 26 during an infertility evaluation. According to experts, in men with infertility and testicles not located in their normal position, timely imaging, genetic testing and specialist examination can be important.
