CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Patna. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and actor Ravi Kishan has targeted opposition parties over the debate on “regime change,” or a change of government. He challenged the opposition that if it wants to change the central government, it should contest elections and win the people’s trust.
Ravi Kishan said that in a democracy, the decision to change a government is taken by the people, and political parties should enter the electoral arena to secure public support.
Targeting opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Ravi Kishan questioned the politics of the opposition while naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. He alleged that while opposing the BJP, the opposition has begun to appear as if it is standing against the country’s interests. He also said that the youth of the country value development and India’s global identity.
What is the “regime change” controversy? “Regime change” refers to a change in government or the power structure. In recent days, amid protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and questions raised over the electoral process, the term has become central to political debate.
Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan had recently said that the movement over issues related to the Election Commission has also become linked to the demand for regime change. After this statement, BJP leaders targeted the opposition and alleged that it was trying to remove the government through protests instead of elections.
On the other hand, opposition leaders say that demands for electoral transparency, fairness and government accountability are part of democratic rights. They argue that a demand for regime change can also be made through elections under the democratic process.
Ravi Kishan’s statement comes at a time when allegations and counter-allegations between the BJP and the opposition over “regime change” have intensified. Issues related to the electoral process, protests and democratic accountability are being raised prominently in this debate.
