CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Recurring Shoulder Pain: Could It Be Bone Cancer?

Repeated shoulder pain is a very common problem, and it may be caused by muscle strain, poor posture, injury, excessive exercise or other shoulder-related conditions. Therefore, it is not right to link every instance of shoulder pain with bone cancer.

However, if the pain persists, gradually increases or occurs without any clear reason, it should not be ignored. Bone cancer is relatively rare. In some cases, symptoms may include persistent pain in the affected bone, swelling or a lump, easy fracture due to weakening of the bone, and unexplained weight loss. Pain that increases at night or while at rest may also be a reason to seek medical evaluation. However, these symptoms do not directly mean cancer, and similar signs can appear in many other illnesses as well.

If shoulder pain has continued for several weeks, keeps returning, or is accompanied by swelling, a lump, weakness or sudden weight loss, it is important to consult a doctor. If needed, an X-ray, MRI, CT scan or other tests may be advised. Timely examination helps identify the correct cause and begin appropriate treatment. There is no need to panic by assuming it is cancer without a doctor’s advice.
