CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Nature is considered to have a deep connection with human health. Research indicates that reduced exposure to natural environments and biodiversity may be linked to imbalance in the immune system and an increased risk of some immune system-related diseases.

According to scientists, exposure to various types of microorganisms present in natural environments may play a role in the development and regulation of the human immune system. Contact with diverse natural environments, especially during childhood, may help the immune system develop properly.

Due to urbanisation and increasing distance from natural areas, people’s contact with plants, soil and the diversity of natural microorganisms is decreasing. Some studies have linked reduced exposure to natural environments with the risk of asthma, allergies and other immune-mediated diseases. However, genetic and several other environmental factors are also behind these diseases, so reduced contact with nature alone cannot be considered the sole cause.

Reviews of research have also found that exposure to nature may have a positive effect on immune health, including effects linked to reducing inflammation and the activity of some immune cells.

Experts believe that promoting green spaces and biodiversity in cities may be useful not only for the environment but also for public health. However, more research is still needed to fully understand the relationship between exposure to nature and immune system-related diseases.
