CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal celebrated International Asteroid Day on its campus. International Asteroid Day is observed to raise awareness about the potential threats asteroids pose to life on Earth and calls for the development of a global strategy to eliminate such celestial bodies in space before they can cause significant damage to our planet.

As part of the event, Mr. Saket Singh Kaurav, Curator ‘E’ and Project Coordinator at the Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, delivered a popular science lecture on the topic:
“Asteroid Apophis: A Cosmic Visitor or a Threat to Our Blue Planet?”

In his talk, he highlighted the potential danger posed by asteroid Apophis, which will pass close to Earth on April 13, 2029, and discussed possible strategies to tackle this imminent threat. A total of 300 visitors, including students, teachers, and members of the public, attended the lecture.

Additionally, the program featured a science film show titled “Planetary Defenders”, a workshop on “Our Asteroid Belt”, and a storytelling session on the theme “How an Asteroid Caused the Extinction of Dinosaurs”, all aimed at increasing public interest and understanding of space-related topics.
For the first time in the City of Lakes (Bhopal), a scaled model of asteroid Apophis was also exhibited to mark the occasion.
