CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has targeted the Congress over Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged objectionable remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said the Prime Minister’s development work is recorded in people’s hearts and cannot be erased from public memory by using abusive language. The Chief Minister claimed that the Congress would face an even more crushing defeat than before in the coming elections.

Political controversy began with Kharge’s remark. The dispute began during a programme held in Patna, the capital of Bihar, on October 25. At a ceremony organised on the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister Shri Krishna Singh, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was raising the issue of alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. During this, a person in the audience made a comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In response, Kharge said, “Even Modi’s father will go.” After this statement, the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised the Congress president and held protests in several states. BJP leaders described it as an insulting remark against the Prime Minister and his family.

‘People will not forgive Congress.’ Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Congress and its allies were crossing the limits of decorum in political opposition. According to her, making personal remarks against the Prime Minister will not reduce public trust in his development work. She alleged that the language and conduct of Congress leaders reflect their political frustration. Rekha Gupta said people are watching such statements and may respond to them in the coming elections. Warning the Congress, she said the party could face an even bigger electoral defeat in the future.

There is also a political confrontation over SIR. The BJP and the Congress already have political differences over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. The Congress is questioning alleged irregularities in the process, while the BJP is criticising the opposition’s allegations. After Kharge’s remark, political rhetoric has intensified further. It remains to be seen how this controversy moves forward in Parliament and electoral politics. However, how much support any party gets in the coming elections will depend on the voters’ decision.
