Relief for 4,000 families as township rent to fall 75%

Under the proposed change, rent will be reduced by up to 75 percent. The rent, which is currently Rs 24 per square foot, is being arranged to be brought down to Rs 6 per square foot. The decision will reduce the financial burden on families living in the township.

The reduction in rent rates is expected to bring relief to families who have long been facing pressure from housing expenses. There will be a difference of Rs 18 per square foot between the existing rate and the proposed new rate. This means rent will be cut by up to three-fourths compared with the earlier rate.

Nearly 4,000 families living in the township could benefit from this change. The reduction in rent will also affect their monthly household budgets. Families living in larger homes, in particular, may receive comparatively greater financial relief from this cut.

However, it is not yet clear from which date the new rates will come into effect or what the detailed process for rent determination will be. The actual extent of relief for families will become clear only after an official decision on these aspects.
