CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of Education at the Central Sanskrit University’s Bhopal campus organized a two-day puppet-making workshop for B.A.-B.Ed. (ITEP) students. The inaugural ceremony of the workshop featured a special lecture on “The Renaissance of Indian Culture.” The keynote speaker was IAS Manoj Srivastava, Commissioner of the Madhya Pradesh Election Commission.

In his address, Mr. Srivastava emphasized the theme of the renaissance of Indian culture, citing various quotations and referencing Swami Vivekananda, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and several verses from the Bhagavad Gita. He highlighted the examples of India’s current cultural resurgence and discussed how Western translators often misrepresented Indian scriptures and deities.

Mr. Srivastava, who has published around 25 books, shed light on India’s intellectual heritage and community-driven knowledge-sharing traditions. He also spoke about the establishment of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) by Dr. V.K. Gupta on August 13, 2014, which safeguarded India’s intellectual property by preventing Western patents on traditional medicines, thereby promoting indigenous science.

He elaborated on India’s global contributions, such as yoga by sages like Patanjali, and Ayurveda by Charaka and Sushruta. He expressed confidence that the rising popularity of temples and a renewed interest in Indian traditions indicate a definitive renaissance of Indian culture.

Professor Ramakant Pandey, Director of the Bhopal campus, in his presidential address, criticized the longstanding Western conspiracy to undermine Indian traditions, which is evident in how rituals and their practitioners were misrepresented in movies. The inaugural speech was delivered by Associate Director Neelabh Tiwari, who welcomed all the dignitaries.

The workshop was coordinated by ITEP Program Coordinator Dataram Pathak. Two experienced trainers from Ahmedabad, Ramesh Rawal and Aditya Raj Jhala, were invited to conduct the puppet-making training.
