On February 6, 2027, an annular solar eclipse will take place, in which the Moon will pass in front of the Sun in such a way that a bright ring of light will be seen around it. For this reason, it is called the “Ring of Fire.” According to NASA, this eclipse will be the first of two solar eclipses in 2027.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon covers the central part of the Sun, but does not appear large enough to cover the Sun completely. As a result, a bright ring is visible around the Sun. During the February 6 eclipse, the maximum phase will last for about 7 minutes and 51 seconds.
The full “Ring of Fire” form of this astronomical event will be visible from parts of South America and Africa. According to NASA, the path of the annular eclipse will pass through Chile, Argentina and the Atlantic region, while a partial eclipse will be visible in South America, Africa and nearby regions.
The annular phase of this eclipse will not be visible from India. Therefore, Indian viewers will have to travel to the region where the main path of the eclipse will pass to see the “Ring of Fire.”
Experts advise that a solar eclipse should never be viewed directly with the naked eye. It is necessary to use safe solar eclipse glasses or certified solar filters.
