The birthday of Santosh Choubey, Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, was celebrated at the university as a festival of linguistic and cultural diversity. Students presented India’s cultural diversity by wearing traditional attire from different states of the country. Birthday greetings offered in various Indian languages made the programme special.
The programme began with an escort by NCC cadets for the Chancellor and a tilak by NSS volunteers. Students then presented glimpses of India’s diverse traditions and folk cultures through various cultural performances.
With the support of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club, students dressed in traditional attire from Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and other states came on stage and extended birthday greetings to Santosh Choubey in different Indian languages. University Registrar Sangeeta Johri also participated in the celebration of linguistic diversity by offering greetings in Sindhi.
The programme featured several cultural presentations, including a welcome song, poetry recitation, Indian fusion dance, classical dance, Rajasthani folk dance and bhangra. Through a ramp walk, students showcased the traditional attire, folk culture and cultural identity of different states. The students’ presentations brought alive the spirit of India’s “unity in diversity”. On the occasion, speakers highlighted Santosh Choubey’s contribution in the fields of education, literature, culture and media. They said continuous efforts are being made at the university level to connect young people with Indian languages, literature and culture. Work is also being undertaken through Vishwarang to provide Indian languages and culture a national and global platform.
Santosh Choubey’s birthday was also celebrated with children in the university’s adopted village Hinotia by students of Rabindranath Tagore University on the occasion of National Service Scheme Foundation Day. At the Santosh Choubey Library established by the university, a special “A Se Anar Ki Pathshala” was organised for children.
During the programme, NSS volunteers recited children’s poems and stories and encouraged the children to connect with education, positive thinking and creative activities. The children collectively wished Santosh Choubey by saying, “Happy Birthday to Chancellor Sir.” Chocolates and writing materials were also distributed to the children on the occasion. Interacting with the children, the volunteers said books are not only a medium of knowledge, but also develop children’s imagination, creativity and ability to learn. The programme in the adopted village was led by NSS programme officers Gabbar Singh and Rekha Gupta. NSS volunteers Makshi Dhakolia, Danish Ashraf and others participated in the programme.
At the end of the event, a cake-cutting ceremony was held. The university family extended birthday wishes to Santosh Choubey, wishing him a healthy, long and creative life.
