CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The third Graduation Day ceremony for international students was held with dignity at Rabindranath Tagore University in Bhopal on Saturday. The chief guest was Dr. Thallada Bhaskar, Director of the CSIR-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute. University Chancellor Santosh Choubey was also present on the occasion.
At the ceremony, international students from different countries were honoured with degrees for their academic achievements. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ravi Prakash Dubey also administered an oath to the students to fulfil their responsibilities towards society, the nation and humanity.
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The guests congratulated the graduating students and extended best wishes for their bright future. Students from various countries shared experiences from their academic journey. They also appreciated India’s culture, education system and the support provided by the university. The students thanked the university for quality education, a safe and inclusive environment and excellent academic facilities.
Addressing the students, chief guest Dr. Thallada Bhaskar said the real purpose of education is not merely to obtain a degree, but to become a responsible and sensitive global citizen. He said that during their studies in India, the students had closely understood the country’s culture, life values, traditions and scientific outlook. Now, when they return to their respective countries, they will also have the responsibility of taking these experiences to the world as cultural and educational ambassadors of India.
Chancellor Santosh Choubey told the students about the ideals and values of Rabindranath Tagore. He said it is not enough only to understand the world; it is also necessary to make oneself capable enough to accept the knowledge, experience and opportunities that come from the world. This, he said, is what education does.
Pro-Chancellor Dr. Aditi Chaturvedi Vats said education gives people the ability to think, understand, analyse and imbibe values. Today’s world is full of many possibilities and challenges, she said. It has both peace and war, and it depends on people which direction they choose. Therefore, young people should develop a vision that enables them to make the right choices, she added.
Registrar Dr. Sangeeta Johri said the university’s objective is not only to provide quality education, but also to prepare students for global challenges. She said international students are leaving with degrees as well as experiences of Indian culture, human values and leadership. Wishing all graduating students a bright future, she called on them to become strong representatives of the university in their respective countries.
The university awarded a gold medal to one student, postgraduate degrees to four students and undergraduate degrees to 12 students. These students are from various countries, including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Uganda, Sudan, Gambia and the Republic of Togo. The ceremony reflected the university’s commitment to international education and global academic excellence.
Dean of the International Division Prof. Ritu Kumaran said 120 international students from 15 countries are currently studying at the university, adding global diversity and a multicultural environment to the campus. The university provides academic, cultural and personal support to students and also organises special orientation programmes to introduce them to the Indian education system and culture.
University Governing Body member Raghavendra Gautam, along with university officials, faculty members, employees, research scholars, students and a large number of international students, attended the ceremony.
