CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Rabindranath Tagore University (RNTU), in association with the Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre, organised a dignified programme to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas. The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Tributes were then paid to the martyrs, and their courage, sacrifice and valour were remembered. An appeal was also made to young people to keep national interest above all else. The programme was attended by chief guest Ashok Pandey, Madhya Bharat Prant Sanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh; university Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Dubey; retired Colonel Narayan Parwani; Dr Vishwas Chauhan; Dr R.D. Mandavkar; and Registrar Dr Sangeeta Jouhari.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Ashok Pandey said no soldier takes bullets on the border merely for a salary; behind it is a deep spirit of patriotism. He said patriotism is not only the responsibility of the armed forces, but the duty of every citizen. Questioning the youth, he said there is enthusiasm today, but if there is no clear purpose before it, life will become directionless. He said only that youth can build the nation whose first priority is “Nation First”. Pandey said rights and duties are two sides of the same coin. One should first discharge one’s duties and then speak of rights. National interest must always be above individual and family interests.
Retired Colonel Narayan Parwani said Indian soldiers displayed indomitable courage and bravery in circumstances that seemed impossible. He said the war was no less than a “suicide mission”, because the soldiers knew they might not return, yet they risked their lives to protect the nation. He said that despite shortages of food, medicines and resources, the Indian Army defeated the enemy. He said the Kargil War is still studied in modern military academies around the world. During the programme, he also gave a special presentation on the Kargil War.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Dubey paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War and said the entire country will remain forever indebted to their supreme sacrifice. He said India is steadily becoming stronger in the defence sector, and this is a matter of pride for every Indian. He urged young people to remain dedicated to their goals and actively contribute to nation-building.
Dr Vishwas Chauhan, professor at State Law College, said the Kargil War is one of the important battles in world military history. The courage, strategy and valour shown by Indian soldiers in difficult mountainous conditions are an inspiration for future generations. He urged young people to understand the sacrifice of soldiers and discharge their responsibilities towards the nation.
At the end of the programme, the hall echoed with slogans of “Victory to Mother India”. Everyone remembered the sacrifice of the martyrs. Amitabh Saxena, Sameer Chaudhary, Lieutenant Manoj Singh Manral, and a large number of students and faculty members were also present at the programme.
