CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A meaningful initiative combining faith with environmental protection was taken at Rabindranath Tagore University (RNTU). An eco-friendly Ganesh idol-making workshop was organised on the university campus under the joint aegis of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Club and the Cultural Club. Renowned sculptor and idol-making expert Lakhan Prajapati introduced students to the art of making Ganesh idols from natural materials and their environmental utility. Yogesh Patel, HOD of the Journalism Department, and Harsha Sharma were present at the workshop.
The objective of the workshop was not only to teach the technique of idol-making, but also to connect students with a tradition in which festivals carry a responsibility towards nature. During the workshop, students learned that idols made from natural and biodegradable materials such as clay can link faith with a commitment to environmental conservation.
Sculptor Lakhan Prajapati introduced students to various stages of idol-making and trained them to make Ganesh idols with their own hands. The students shaped the clay with enthusiasm and interest, creating Ganesh idols themselves.
The entire process of idol-making gave students an opportunity not only to learn an art form, but also to understand the deep relationship between Indian culture and the environment.
Students resolved to take the idols prepared during the workshop to their homes and install them there. Through this initiative, the students also conveyed the message that it is possible to uphold traditions while fulfilling one’s responsibility towards nature.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor RP Dubey said the event strengthens the idea that environmental protection is not only the subject of large campaigns, but can also begin with small changes made in everyday traditions and festivals.
Registrar Sangeeta Jauhari said that through clay Ganesh idols, RNTU has also given a message of sensitivity towards nature along with faith.
Along with the students, teachers and staff members of the university also participated enthusiastically in the workshop. On the campus, amid students shaping clay, a unique confluence of faith, creativity and environmental awareness was witnessed.
