CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: As part of the National Student Study Tour being held at Rabindranath Tagore University, an exhibition on “historical coins, archaeological objects and postage stamps” was organised at the university on Saturday. In this special session focused on history and archaeology, students from various non-Hindi-speaking states of the country were provided information related to India’s historical legacy, cultural heritage and archaeological significance. The programme was chaired by university Chancellor and Vishwa Rang Director Santosh Choubey. Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Dubey and special guest Padma Shri Narayan Vyas were also specially present on the occasion.
During the programme, students viewed the exhibition of historical coins, archaeological remains and rare postage stamps. Experts explained the historical, cultural and archaeological significance of the displayed material. A special film based on the Narmada Project was also screened, giving students an opportunity to understand various dimensions of Indian heritage and cultural conservation.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Dubey welcomed the students from non-Hindi-speaking states and appreciated the study tour organised by the Central Hindi Directorate. He said Rabindranath Tagore University is continuously working for the promotion and dissemination of the Hindi language. Through Vishwa Rang, the International Hindi Olympiad and other creative activities, the university is striving to give Hindi a global identity.
Special guest Padma Shri Narayan Vyas, speaking on the relationship between history and archaeology, said, “Archaeology is the foundation of culture. If archaeology does not survive, history too will not remain secure.” Referring to the challenges of archaeological research, he said the work demands immense patience, dedication and hard work. When historical evidence is found after working in many difficult conditions, it makes all the hardships worthwhile. He also explained in detail the importance of soil and archaeological remains.
In his presidential address, Santosh Choubey said archaeology plays the most important role in the making of history. The knowledge we have today of ancient civilisations, empires and cultural traditions owes its greatest contribution to archaeology. Referring to Bhopal’s historical heritage, monuments and the contribution of the Begums, he urged students to understand history not only through books but also through sites and archaeological evidence.
He said the study of historical novels is extremely useful for understanding the Hindi language. The objective of Vishwa Rang is to give equal respect to Hindi as well as all Indian languages and dialects, because the development of Hindi is linked to the collective development of Indian languages.
Announcing the establishment of a “Bhasha Maitri Manch” at the university, he said students speaking different languages would get an opportunity to know and understand one another’s language and culture through it. Referring to the International Hindi Olympiad and the global activities of Vishwa Rang, he said art and culture have no boundaries and linguistic coordination is the greatest strength of national cultural unity.
Organised jointly by the Central Hindi Directorate, Vishwa Rang Foundation, Rabindranath Tagore University, Scope Global Skills University and Barkatullah University, this session under the National Student Study Tour is proving to be an important opportunity for students to closely understand history, archaeology, Indian languages and cultural heritage. In the upcoming sessions of the study tour, participants will also take part in activities on various topics related to Hindi, Indian culture, literature and heritage under the guidance of experts.
