CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the C. V. Raman Science Communication Centre of Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme and the Engineering Department, successfully organised a three-day programme. The event was sponsored by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal.

The objective of the programme was to create awareness among students and society about environmental protection, cleanliness, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. During the three-day event, several activities were conducted, including competitions at the university such as essay writing and poster-making. Programmes including a cleanliness drive in the Bhojpur area and distribution of plants to villagers in Gokula Kundi were also organised. On the final day, a tree plantation drive and a special lecture were held at the university.

As part of the programme, students and volunteers carried out a cleanliness campaign in the Bhojpur area to spread the message of environmental conservation. Local villagers were also given free plants and encouraged to take up tree plantation. Hundreds of saplings were planted in the university campus and nearby areas, with a pledge to create a greener environment.

The programme was chaired by the university's Vice-Chancellor, R. P. Dubey. In his presidential address, he said environmental protection has now become a global necessity and universities have an important responsibility to connect students with environmental consciousness and social responsibility.

At the special lecture session organised on the occasion, noted environmentalist Sharad Kumre, who has been honoured by the Madhya Pradesh government, shared detailed views on the current challenges of environmental protection, the effects of climate change and the need for public participation. Renowned anchor and commentator Vinay Upadhyay, while addressing the youth, called upon them to become sensitive to environmental issues and play an active role in public awareness campaigns.

Among those involved in organising the programme were Preeti Singh, coordinator, C. V. Raman Science Communication Centre; Gabbar Singh, NSS officer; Mohan Sagoriya, co-editor of the science magazine Electroniki Aapke Liye; Ravi Kiran, coordinator, Akshay Urja Kendra; Ankit Agrawal, Dean of the Science Faculty; and department head Bhavana. Faculty members from various university departments and a large number of students were also present.

The three-day event successfully spread the message of responsibility and sensitivity towards nature while increasing awareness about environmental protection among students and the wider community.
