CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Continuing their winning momentum, the Rabindranath Tagore University (RNTU) women’s hockey team brought pride to the university by winning the silver medal at the West Zone Women’s Hockey Tournament. With this remarkable achievement, the team has also qualified for the All India Inter-University Tournament.
In the final league matches of the tournament, the RNTU team displayed an aggressive and dominant style of play. In their first match, RNTU defeated Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer by a massive 8–1 margin. Palak Gupta and Karmanpreet Kaur Gill scored two goals each, while Bhoomiksha Sahu, Yogita Verma, Ayushi Patel, and Khushi Kataria contributed one goal each. For her outstanding performance, Yogita Verma was named Player of the Match.
In the second decisive match, the team defeated Savitribai Phule Pune University by 3–1. Karmanpreet Kaur Gill, Ashrita Thakur, and Usha Kumari scored one goal each, securing the team’s victory and confirming the silver medal. Vice-captain Ashrita Thakur was awarded Player of the Match. For her exceptional performance throughout the tournament, Bhoomiksha Sahu received the Best Striker Award.
Under the able guidance of coach Akanksha Parmar and manager Satish Ahirwar, the team demonstrated excellent coordination and teamwork throughout the tournament.
The silver medal-winning team included Captain Yogita Verma (BPES), Vice-Captain Ashrita Thakur (BA), Goalkeepers Ankita Kushwaha (MPES) and Pratima Saroj (BA), Nishi Yadav (BPES), Diksha Bhargava (BPES), Khushi Kataria (BA), Palak Gupta (BPES), Lavdeep Kaur Gill (M.Com), Bhoomiksha Sahu (BPES), Sonia Kumre (BA), Sakshi Jain (BA), Karmanpreet Kaur Gill (BA), Huda Khan (BPES), Usha Kumari (B.P.Ed), Ayushi Patel (BA), Sonam Rana (BA), and Munmuni Das (BPES), all of whom delivered an impressive performance.
Congratulating the players on their outstanding success, University Chancellor Santosh Choubey, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Aditi Chaturvedi Vats, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ravi Prakash Dubey, IQAC Director Dr. Neetin Vats, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Registrar Dr. Sangeeta Johri, and District Sports Officer of Raisen district Jalaj Chaturvedi extended their best wishes to the entire team for the All India Inter-University Tournament.
