CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of Yoga at Rabindranath Tagore University organised the ‘RNTU Yoga Excellence Honour Ceremony – 2026’ and a ‘One-Day Yoga Dialogue’ with due ceremony. Sportspersons from Madhya Pradesh who returned after winning various medals with outstanding performances at the World Yogasana Championship were specially honoured at the programme. The chief guest was Dr Raghvendra Sharma, chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Yoga Commission. Dr Chandrashekhar Tiwari, founder of Akhand Aushadhalaya, retired IPS officer Vedprakash Sharma, and the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.P. Dubey were also prominently present.

The university honoured young players who have brought pride to the country and the state at the international level. The players were presented the ‘RNTU Yoga Excellence Honour – 2026’ for their outstanding achievements, hard work, discipline and dedication.

The university’s initiative to honour the players was an important step towards inspiring the younger generation towards yogasana sports and encouraging talent. Yoga gurus from Bhopal and personalities who have made notable contributions in the field of yoga were also honoured at the programme. Their contributions were recognised through the ‘Yoga Yoddha Award’ and the ‘Yoga Karmaveer Award’.

As part of the programme, the ‘One-Day Yoga Dialogue’ featured meaningful discussions among special guests and participants associated with the field of yoga on important subjects, including the current form of yoga, the role of yoga among youth, yoga education and research, the prospects of yogasana sports, and promoting yoga at the global level.

In his address, chief guest Dr Raghvendra Sharma, chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Yoga Commission, said yoga is an invaluable gift from India’s ancient knowledge tradition to the world. Today, yoga is not only a medium of health and lifestyle, but has also become an important basis of India’s identity at the international level. Congratulating the players and yoga gurus who achieved success internationally, he said such honours inspire young people to move ahead in yoga and yogasana sports.

Special guest Dr Chandrashekhar Tiwari highlighted the importance of yoga and traditional Indian knowledge, and emphasised the need to take yoga to every section of society. Vedprakash Sharma also praised the development of yogasana sports and the achievements of the players, saying the success of Indian players at the international level is an indication of the bright future of yogasana sports.

In his address, the university’s Vice-Chancellor described yoga as an important foundation for a healthy and balanced life and said the university would continue to promote yoga education, research and sports. He congratulated the players and yoga gurus who brought pride to the state at the international level and appreciated their efforts.

Head of the Department of Yoga Dr Ratnesh Pandey, assistant professor Akhilesh Vishwakarma, Nikhil Modi, teachers of the Yoga Department, students, research scholars, yoga gurus, players and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
