CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Rohit Sharma’s ODI double-century record remains challenging for Virat Kohli
New Delhi. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both created distinct identities in Indian cricket through their outstanding performances. Rohit is known for his explosive batting and ability to hit big sixes, while Virat Kohli is renowned for consistently scoring runs and for his expertise in run chases. Both players have several major records to their names. Among them, Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring three double centuries in one-day international cricket stands out.
Rohit Sharma is the only batter in the world to have scored three double centuries in ODIs. He first scored 209 against Australia in Bengaluru in November 2013. He then played a historic innings of 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in November 2014. This remains the highest individual score by any batter in ODI cricket. Rohit completed his third double century in December 2017, scoring an unbeaten 208 against Sri Lanka in Mohali. These innings raised the possibilities of big scoring in ODI cricket to a new level.
For Virat Kohli, reaching this record will not be easy. Kohli has scored many centuries in one-day cricket and has set several major records. However, he has not yet scored a double century in ODIs. To equal Rohit’s record of three double centuries, Virat would have to play three innings of 200 runs or more.
This record is highly extraordinary, but the possibility of a player achieving it in the future cannot be completely ruled out. Virat’s batting ability and his experience of performing at a high level over a long period make him capable of achieving challenging milestones.
Rohit Sharma’s batting reflects his ability to play big shots and build long innings. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is recognised for his technique, fitness and ability to adjust his batting tempo according to conditions. Their styles are different, but their contribution to Indian cricket has been significant.
Rohit’s record of three ODI double centuries remains one of the exceptional achievements in cricket history. Whether Virat Kohli will be able to break it will depend on his future performances. For now, this record remains a special part of Rohit Sharma’s identity in one-day cricket.
