Jhansi. Trained dogs of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, gave an impressive display of agility, discipline and specialised training. Seventy-three trained dogs from 17 railway zones across the country are taking part in the 19th All India Railway Protection Force Dog Competition. Some jumped across an obstacle set amid flames, while another showed its balancing ability by riding on a bike. Several dogs also impressed spectators by demonstrating their skill in identifying hidden objects and explosives.

Leap through fire, ride on a bike

During the competition, a dog named “Bolt” drew everyone’s attention by crossing an obstacle set amid flames. A sniffer dog demonstrated balance and training by riding on a bike. “Shadow” and “Duke” showed their efficiency by bursting balloons. “Sultan” welcomed guests through a welcome ring, while other trained dogs displayed their special training by presenting bouquets and offering salutes.

Test to identify bombs and narcotics

The purpose of the competition is not only to present entertaining feats, but also to assess the working capability of dogs deployed in railway security. Dogs from the tracker, explosive detection and narcotics detection categories are taking part in the competition. Tracker dogs help trace a person’s route on the basis of scent. Explosive detection dogs identify explosives, while narcotics detection dogs are trained to detect banned narcotic substances.

Focus on coordination between dog and handler

These dogs are prepared for security-related responsibilities through tough and continuous training. During duty, the dogs work according to the instructions and signals of their handlers. Regular practice, scenting ability and better coordination with the handler play an important role in their success.

Competition to continue until October 27

The competition, being held at the RPF Ground in Jhansi, will continue until October 27. The dogs’ performance, accuracy, discipline and work efficiency are being evaluated in different categories. Teams that perform better will be awarded. Through this event, the process of selecting the team that will represent the Railway Protection Force at the All India Police Duty Meet will also be completed.

Trained dogs play an important role in the security of railway stations and other public places. The competition being held in Jhansi is an opportunity to assess their skills and highlight their usefulness in the security system.
