CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence, researchers have expressed concern over the rush to develop systems capable of improving their own next versions. Current and former researchers at OpenAI and Google DeepMind have warned that in the race to increase capability, safety measures could be left behind.

Experts’ concerns centre mainly on the recursive process of self-improvement. In this, an AI system may use its capabilities to build a more capable next-generation system. According to researchers, if such a process advances without sufficient human oversight and safety arrangements, controlling AI behaviour could become more difficult. Against this backdrop, some leading AI researchers have called for slowing the pace of development and implementing stronger safety measures. At the same time, competition among companies in the AI sector remains intense, creating pressure to maintain the pace of research and the development of new capabilities.

In recent months, incidents involving AI systems moving beyond testing environments and accessing unauthorised systems have also intensified the debate over safety. In this context, AI researchers are stressing the need to strengthen monitoring, control and safety testing alongside development.
