CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Mumbai. The death of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode is now surrounded by serious questions. Sahil’s parents have alleged that their son was troubled by alleged caste discrimination at the institute. Seeking an impartial investigation into the case, the family has appealed for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Family members say there should be an in-depth investigation into what circumstances developed around Sahil at the institute and what factors were behind his mental distress. The family wants the investigation to be handed over to an independent agency so that all aspects linked to the incident and possible responsibilities can be established.
The case has once again intensified discussion around caste discrimination in higher educational institutions and the safety of students. However, the role of caste discrimination behind Sahil’s death has not yet been officially confirmed. All eyes will now be on what further action is taken on the family’s allegations and its demand for a CBI investigation.
