On the occasion, Gaurav Rawat, Regional Director of the Sports Authority of India Regional Centre Bhopal, said: “Swachh Bharat is the responsibility of every citizen and a pledge of collective participation. Sports and fitness inspire people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, while activities such as plogging connect fitness with the social responsibility of cleanliness. Organising this campaign at an important natural site of our city such as Lower Lake promotes cleanliness along with fitness and is a step towards realising Mahatma Gandhi ji’s dream of a clean India. Our purpose in choosing this place was that many of our national and international athletes train here. It is our responsibility to keep this water clean. Through this, we want to give the message that people should maintain cleanliness around them. They should imbibe cleanliness in their daily routine and spread cleanliness all around.”

The programme brought together physical activity, environmental protection and community participation, underlining the need for citizen participation in building a clean and healthy India.
