CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Rawalpindi. Pakistan all-rounder Salman Ali Agha drew the cricket world’s attention with a superb century in the first match of the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka. After losing the T20 International team captaincy and being left out of the Test side, Salman played an aggressive innings of 107 off 90 balls. Powered by his knock, Pakistan made 305 runs in their allotted 50 overs and won the match by 37 runs.

Playing at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Salman Ali Agha steadied Pakistan’s innings under pressure. His 107-run innings included 10 fours and one six. It was the fourth century of his ODI career and his fastest hundred in the format. Pakistan were in a difficult position at one stage, but Salman’s innings played a key role in taking the side to a strong total. His batting gave the team a chance to come back into the match.

Salman had recently been dropped from Pakistan’s Test team. After that, the Pakistan Cricket Board also removed him as captain of the T20 International team and did not include him in the squad for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. Following those decisions, he focused on his batting in domestic cricket. Playing for Kingsmen Academy in the Presidents Trophy Grade-I competition, he had scored an unbeaten 300. After consistently making runs in domestic cricket, he converted the opportunity he received in the ODI team into a century.

Chasing Pakistan’s target of 305, Sri Lanka made the contest exciting as Janith Liyanage and Pavan Rathnayake put on a 119-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, Pakistan’s fast bowlers fought back and stopped Sri Lanka short of the target. With this win, Pakistan began the three-nation ODI series with a victory. Salman’s innings also showed that after being left out of the team and losing the captaincy, he worked hard in domestic cricket to regain his form.
