CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Actor Sanjay Dutt spoke to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik over the phone after a controversy over the Marathi language, offered an explanation and apologised.
During a Dahi Handi programme in Thane, Sanjay Dutt had said in a humorous manner that despite spending six years in Yerawada jail, he had not been able to learn Marathi. His remark became a subject of discussion and criticism on social media.
After the controversy escalated, Sanjay Dutt called Minister Pratap Sarnaik. He began the conversation by saying, “Pratap bhai, Jai Maharashtra,” and clarified that his statement had only been made in jest. The actor said that if his words had hurt anyone’s sentiments or sent out any wrong message, he wanted to apologise for it.
He also said that he knows Marathi well and that his family is connected with Mumbai. Sanjay Dutt also expressed his affection for Maharashtra. He said he had grown up in this soil and that Maharashtra had given him a great deal.
During the conversation, he also recalled his old ties with late Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray and the support he had received from his family. Amid the controversy, an old video of Sanjay Dutt had also surfaced in which he was seen speaking fluent Marathi.
