Sanjay Raut attacks BJP over Amitabh Bachchan’s security, asks how democracy will survive

Mumbai. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Maharashtra’s law-and-order situation and the security of the film industry. Raising the issue of actor Amitabh Bachchan meeting fans from within a bulletproof security cover, he said it was shameful and condemnable that the country’s megastar had to live amid such security. Raut alleged that the entire Hindi film industry was in an atmosphere of fear, while the government was talking about saving democracy.

Raut questioned Amitabh Bachchan’s security arrangements, saying that an eminent artiste like Amitabh Bachchan had to stand behind bulletproof glass to meet fans. He asked what the security situation of ordinary citizens would be if the country’s leading artistes themselves did not feel safe.

In his statement, Raut also referred to the firing outside actor Tiger Shroff’s house and the murder of former minister Baba Siddiqui. He alleged that major builders and film artistes were continuously receiving threats. Referring to these incidents, Raut named the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and sought an answer from the government on law and order.

Targeting the BJP’s “Save Democracy” campaign, Raut took a dig at the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and BJP leaders, saying those who talk about saving democracy should first ensure the safety of the country’s citizens and artistes. He said the government should focus on security arrangements instead of political issues.

Sanjay Raut’s statement has again intensified the political debate in Maharashtra over law and order and the security of the film industry. However, detailed official information has not emerged on the reasons behind Amitabh Bachchan’s security arrangements.
