CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Santosh Choubey will be conferred an honorary doctorate by Babu Dinesh Singh University, Garhwa, Jharkhand, for his notable contribution in the fields of education, social entrepreneurship, literature, science communication and Indian languages. The honour will be presented to him on September 21, 2026, during the university’s first convocation. The ceremony will be held at the university’s Gurupad Sambhavan Ramji Auditorium.
The university’s Academic Council and Governing Body selected Choubey for the honour in recognition of his distinguished contribution to education, literature, social entrepreneurship, science communication and creative writing. According to the university, the degree is a symbol of respect and appreciation for his notable contributions and achievements.
Santosh Choubey has contributed to education and social entrepreneurship for more than four decades. In 1985, he founded the All India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology (AISECT). Its objective was to reduce the digital divide between urban and rural India and expand access to education and technology.
Under his leadership, AISECT has worked extensively in rural, tribal and semi-urban areas in the fields of education, skills and vocational training, technical education and financial inclusion. Choubey, an electronics and communication engineer from NIT Bhopal, promoted education as a medium of social change and empowerment. In higher education, institutions such as Rabindranath Tagore University, Dr. C.V. Raman University Bilaspur, Dr. C.V. Raman University Vaishali, C.V. Raman University Khandwa, AISECT University Hazaribagh and Scope Global Skills University developed under his guidance. These institutions place special emphasis on linking education with skill development, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and industry-oriented learning.
Santosh Choubey is also known as a prominent science writer and science communicator in Hindi. His book “Computer: Ek Parichay”, published in 1986, played an important role in expanding technical education and computer awareness in Hindi. Strengthening the dialogue between literature and science, he has worked consistently in the fields of poetry, fiction, novels and popular science writing.
Active across diverse literary forms, poet, storyteller and novelist Santosh Choubey is among those Hindi writers who have played an equally active role in both literature and science. His six short story collections – “Halke Rang Ki Kameez”, “Restaurant Mein Dopahar”, “Nau Binduon Ka Khel”, “Beech Prem Mein Gandhi”, “Pratinidhi Kahaniyan” and “Magar Shakespeare Ko Yaad Rakhna” – have been published and widely discussed.
His four novels, “Raag Kedar”, “Kya Pata Comrade Mohan”, “Jal Tarang” and “Sapnon Ki Duniya Mein Blackhole”, have been published. His poetry collections include “Kahin Aur Sach Honge Sapne”, “Kona Dharti Ka”, “Is A-Kavi Samay Mein” and “Ghar Bahar”. His stories have been staged at various platforms, including Bharat Bhavan and the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and his writings have appeared in leading newspapers and magazines across the country.
He has also made a notable contribution to the preservation and promotion of Indian languages and culture. The citation prepared for the university’s honorary degree specifically highlights his literary and scientific writing, along with his efforts to promote Indian languages and culture.
Santosh Choubey’s contribution to education, science, innovation, social entrepreneurship and literature has been recognised through various national and international honours. He has received several prestigious awards, including the National Innovation Award, the Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the National Literacy Award.
