CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Vinod Sen expressed gratitude for the historic Supreme Court decision against bulldozers demolishing poor people’s homes, calling it a victory for Gandhian principles. He highlighted the support of peace-loving individuals who have legally fought for justice, nurturing India’s composite culture, shaped by Gandhi’s followers’ sacrifices.
Following today’s Supreme Court ruling, Sen said, hope has risen among millions across the country who believe in the constitutional fabric of India. He urged the Court to take suo motu cognizance of rising mob lynchings and hate speech, especially after the 2018 Tehseen Poonawalla judgment, which issued guidelines on curbing inflammatory speech and mob violence. He expressed dismay at how certain state governments have ignored these directives, stating that the 2018 judgment mandated governments to act proactively on hate speech, appoint nodal officers at district levels to monitor mob lynchings and inflammatory speech, and take strict legal action through local administrations.
Sen criticized BJP-led states where chief ministers, MPs, and MLAs are disregarding Supreme Court guidelines openly. He highlighted specific examples, including Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and others in constitutional positions allegedly violating the Court’s guidelines. He noted that while cases have been filed against some of these individuals, there has been no administrative action taken against them.
