CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain has received major relief in the alleged corruption case linked to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday, September 3, allowed his bail plea. In a brief oral order, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the bail application was accepted.
The court directed Satyendar Jain to furnish a personal bond of ₹2 lakh and two sureties of the same amount. A detailed order giving the reasons for granting bail is yet to be issued. Jain had been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody on August 19.
The case relates to allegations of irregularities and manipulation in the tender process for Delhi Jal Board sewage treatment plant (STP) projects. The case was registered in May 2024 on the basis of a complaint by the Delhi government’s Directorate of Vigilance.
The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has alleged that the technical conditions of the tender were changed in a manner that allegedly benefited a private company, Euroteck Environmental Pvt. Ltd. The investigating agency has accused Jain of influencing the tender process in coordination with senior officials.
According to the ACB, the capacity of the STP at Rohini was increased from 15 MGD to 30 MGD. The agency claims this change was made without a proper technical study or recommendation, increasing the estimated project cost by about ₹123 crore. However, all these are claims made by the investigating agency, and the final judicial decision in the matter has not yet been delivered.
Appearing for Satyendar Jain, his side argued in court that he had granted approval on the basis of recommendations of the technical committee and had no direct role in the tender process. His lawyer also said the material required for the investigation had already been collected and that further custody was not necessary. Jain’s bail has brought political and legal relief to AAP, but the judicial process over the Delhi Jal Board tender investigation and allegations will continue.
