CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi. Security was tightened at Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas on Friday in view of a proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Amid the enforcement of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in New Delhi district, police detained several leaders and workers, including Aam Aadmi Party Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj.

According to police, permission had not been granted for a protest at Jantar Mantar. Despite this, leaders and workers reached the spot to take part in the demonstration. Before being detained, Bharadwaj appealed for the protest to be held in a peaceful and constitutional manner. Reports also said that AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha and several other workers were detained along with him.

In view of the protest, barricading has been put in place at Jantar Mantar and nearby areas. Delhi Police has divided the area into several security zones and deployed senior officers. Traffic restrictions have also been imposed. In addition, Delhi Metro temporarily closed entry and exit at 11 stations for security reasons, though interchange facilities were provided to passengers at some stations.

The protest is linked to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission. Opposition parties have been raising questions over issues related to the electoral process, including the Special Intensive Revision of the voter list. The administration, meanwhile, has enforced Section 163 and security restrictions to maintain law and order.
