CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The political controversy surrounding the Satya Niketan paying guest (PG) building collapse has intensified after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi president Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are the “real owners” of properties being used as PG accommodations in the area. The allegations have emerged after the collapse of a five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan, which claimed seven lives and left several people injured.
Bhardwaj has questioned the ownership and regulatory arrangements surrounding PG properties and alleged that political connections may have contributed to a lack of effective action against unsafe buildings. The claims have triggered a fresh political confrontation, while authorities continue investigating the circumstances that led to the building collapse. The police have registered an FIR and are examining possible violations related to construction and building safety.
The tragedy has also raised wider concerns over the rapid growth of private PG accommodations in Delhi’s student hubs. Many students depend on such facilities because of limited affordable hostel accommodation. The Delhi High Court has sought a high-level inquiry and called for a safety audit of PG accommodations, highlighting concerns over accountability and enforcement.
The latest political allegations have therefore added another dimension to an already serious debate over student safety, unauthorized construction, property ownership and civic accountability in Delhi.
