CNN Central News & Network – ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal / Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday made it clear in the Legislative Council that only followers of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism are eligible for Scheduled Caste (SC) benefits. If a person has converted to any religion outside these three and has still obtained an SC certificate, it will be cancelled.

Fadnavis stated that the state government will take strict action in such cases where a person has acquired a government job or contested elections using a fake SC certificate. Legal proceedings will be initiated against such individuals, and if they have won an election on that basis, it will also be annulled.

The Chief Minister also indicated that the Maharashtra government is considering introducing a stringent anti-conversion law to curb forced or fraudulent religious conversions. He emphasized that the state is committed to enforcing strict provisions in this regard.

Fadnavis’s statement is being seen as a decisive step toward preserving social justice and the core values of the Constitution. The government’s aim is clear — to crack down on fraud and unauthorized benefits, and to ensure that genuinely marginalized communities receive their rightful entitlements.
