CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Supreme Court of India has declined to urgently hear the Tamil Nadu government’s plea challenging the central government’s alleged delay in disbursing educational funds. Tamil Nadu accused the Centre of withholding crucial funds under centrally sponsored schemes, significantly affecting the state’s school and higher education programs. In its petition, Tamil Nadu sought immediate intervention to ensure the release of funds that support students, especially from economically weaker sections. The state argued that the delay was politically motivated and hampered developmental goals in education.
However, the Chief Justice-led bench refused an urgent listing, stating that the matter does not merit immediate consideration. The Court clarified that while the issue is serious, it will be taken up in due course under the regular judicial process. The central government, for its part, has denied any political angle and maintained that the fund release process is under review and being streamlined for transparency.
This decision has sparked political discourse, with opposition parties backing Tamil Nadu’s claims, accusing the Centre of partiality. The incident once again brings federal-state fiscal relations and education policy implementation into the spotlight.
