CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Centre and West Bengal government on a petition filed by Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who has alleged that she is being obstructed from performing her functions as an elected representative in the Krishnanagar constituency.
A Bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana heard the matter and asked the governments to file their responses. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and the West Bengal government, said the responses would be filed.
Moitra’s petition alleges difficulties in implementing works under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) in her constituency. She has also alleged problems accessing government facilities during constituency visits and sought adequate protection while travelling to Krishnanagar.
The petition also refers to an incident involving a Circuit House in Nadia district. Moitra has alleged that she was asked to leave the government property despite having been allotted a room. She has sought the court’s intervention over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to reports, Moitra has alleged that administrative and police actions have made it difficult for her to conduct public meetings, undertake constituency-related activities and implement development works. These allegations are part of her petition and have not been established as findings by the court.
The Supreme Court has given the respondents time to file their replies, after which the matter will be considered further. The court’s direction to seek responses does not constitute a finding on the allegations raised by Moitra.
