CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Security arrangements have been tightened in view of a proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 2. Delhi Police has not granted permission for the protest, despite which various student and social organisations have announced plans to gather. The protest is expected to raise the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Police have put in place multi-layered barricading at Jantar Mantar and on major routes around New Delhi. Companies of the Central Armed Police Forces have also been deployed along with Delhi Police as part of the security arrangements. According to officials, around 4,000 security personnel have been deployed and nearly 20 companies of central forces have been assigned to security duty. The administration has imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Traffic is being regulated or diverted in and around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, Tolstoy Road and nearby areas. Commuters have been advised to avoid these routes and use alternative roads.
Police have also made preparations after reviewing previous protests. According to officials, surveillance has been increased in the New Delhi area, the CCTV system has been strengthened and anti-riot drills have also been conducted for police personnel. Additional security and temporary detention arrangements are also being considered in case a large number of protesters arrive.
