CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIADMK suffered another political setback after senior leader and former minister S. Semmalai resigned from the party, citing growing internal conflict and dissatisfaction with its leadership. In his resignation letter addressed to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), Semmalai expressed “immense mental anguish” over recent developments within the party and claimed that long-time cadres were equally disturbed by the ongoing turmoil.
Semmalai alleged that after the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, several loyal leaders were sidelined and denied opportunities despite years of service to the party. He also raised concerns that constant factionalism and public disputes were damaging the image and legacy of AIADMK.
The resignation comes at a time when the AIADMK is facing serious internal divisions, with rebel leaders openly challenging the leadership of EPS following the party’s poor electoral performance in Tamil Nadu. Recent disagreements over alliances, leadership changes, and support extended to Chief Minister Vijay’s government have further intensified tensions within the party.
Political analysts believe Semmalai’s exit could encourage more dissatisfied leaders and cadres to question the party’s current direction, adding uncertainty to AIADMK’s future political strategy in Tamil Nadu.
