CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: If you are preparing to travel by train to Chandigarh, or from there, in September or October 2026, this is important information for you. A 36-day power and traffic block will be taken at Chandigarh railway station from September 10 to October 15. Due to ongoing construction and upgrade work at the station, the Railways has made changes to the operation of several trains.

According to arrangements issued by the Railways, 12 trains will remain completely cancelled during this period. In addition, several trains may be operated from or terminated at Ambala or Mohali instead of Chandigarh. The routes and platforms of some trains will also be changed. Overall, 442 train trips are reported to be affected.

Why has the block been taken? Infrastructure upgrade work is underway at Chandigarh railway station. This includes work related to the balance through roof and the removal of girders of the old foot overbridge. Power and traffic blocks will be taken in different phases for these works.

The first phase will run from September 10 to 21. The second phase will then run from September 22 to October 3, and the third phase from October 4 to 15. Train operations will be changed as the up and down lines are affected in different phases.

What should passengers do? If you have planned travel on the Chandigarh, Ambala, Kalka or Delhi route during this period, check the latest running status of your train before booking tickets or leaving for the station. If several trains operate from or terminate at nearby stations instead of Chandigarh, passengers may need additional transport for their onward journey. It would therefore be better to check official railway information and station displays before travelling.
