CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: The Diwali festival has long been considered important for Bollywood films in terms of earnings. Several films released on this occasion have performed strongly at the box office and entertained audiences widely. From Salman Khan’s “Tiger 3” to Ajay Devgn’s “Golmaal Again” and Akshay Kumar’s “Sooryavanshi”, many films have done business worth crores of rupees worldwide. The total earnings of seven talked-about films released during Diwali are said to be around ₹2,500 crore. However, collection figures for different films may vary on the basis of domestic and global earnings.

“Tiger 3” did strong business worldwide: Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s film “Tiger 3” was released on Diwali 2023. Emraan Hashmi was also seen in an important role in the film. Based on an action and espionage story, the film did business of more than about ₹466 crore worldwide. There was excitement among audiences about the film even before its release, and it delivered a strong performance at the box office in its initial days.

“Golmaal Again” and “Housefull 4” also earned well: Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Tabu and Arshad Warsi’s comedy film “Golmaal Again” was released on Diwali 2017. The film performed well at the box office, earning more than ₹200 crore worldwide. Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Bobby Deol’s “Housefull 4” arrived in theatres on Diwali 2019 and also attracted audiences in large numbers. The success of both films underlined the popularity of comedy films during the festival.

“Sooryavanshi” gave momentum to cinemas after the pandemic: Directed by Rohit Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s film “Sooryavanshi” was released on Diwali 2021. The film did good business during the period when audiences were returning to theatres after the coronavirus pandemic. Apart from this, Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor’s “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Happy New Year” and Hrithik Roshan’s “Krrish 3” were also among the films released on Diwali that recorded notable box office earnings.

Film releases during the festival boost business: During Diwali, holidays, family gatherings and rising demand for entertainment give filmmakers an opportunity to reach a large audience. Films featuring big stars attract viewers to theatres during this period. However, the success of a film does not depend only on its release date; story, direction, acting, promotion and audience response also play an important role in its earnings. Because box office figures differ between domestic net collections, gross collections and worldwide earnings, the total earnings figure for the seven films may change depending on the source.
