CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: With the growing use of digital technology making awareness of cybercrime essential, Scope Global Skills University has taken an important initiative in the field of cyber security. Under the ‘Cyber Shiksha for Cyber Suraksha’ campaign, run in collaboration with Cyber Police Bhopal and Quick Heal, the university’s “Cyber Warriors” organised awareness programmes in various schools and institutions and took the message of cyber safety to 6,336 people.
The campaign, conducted under the guidance of university Registrar Sitesh Kumar Sinha, included a total of 29 cyber awareness programmes, through which 5,877 students were made aware of ways to protect themselves from cybercrime. In addition, information on cyber safety was delivered to 459 workers through 20 impact activities. In all, the campaign reached 6,336 people.
During the awareness programmes, students and community members were informed about online fraud, fake calls and links, the risks of sharing information, social media safety, precautions in digital payments, identifying cyber fraud, and ways to obtain immediate help in the event of a cybercrime. Participants were also told that cyber security is not merely a technical subject, but a personal responsibility of every digital user.
Programmes under the campaign were organised at several educational institutions, including CLRR International School, Scope Public School, Gyan Jyoti Academy School, Vivek Jagriti Vidyalaya, Eklavya Model Residential School, Boys Government School, Acharya Shriram Vidyalaya, Maharana Pratap Higher Secondary School, KM Convent Higher Secondary School, St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School and Carmel Convent.
“Cyber safety is an essential life skill today,” said SGSU Chancellor Siddharth Chaturvedi. He said digital technology has become an integral part of life and knowledge of cyber safety is necessary for every citizen. “The young generation uses technology the most, so making them aware of cyber threats and safe digital behaviour is the need of the hour. The effort is to ensure that our students do not become only technically skilled, but also responsible and aware digital citizens,” he said.
“Awareness is the first line of defence against cybercrime,” said Vice-Chancellor Vijay Singh. He said that along with technical measures, awareness is also extremely important to prevent cybercrime. “A small digital lapse can cause financial and mental harm to a person. Keeping passwords and personal information secure, avoiding suspicious links and immediately reporting any cyber incident is the responsibility of every citizen. Through such campaigns, the university is trying not only to make students aware, but also to take the message of cyber safety to their families and the wider society,” he said.
SGSU’s Cyber Warriors played an active role during the campaign, interacting with students and community members and motivating them to adopt safe digital behaviour.
