CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Dr Sheena Agarwal, a resident of Yamunanagar in Haryana, has made a distinct mark in the fields of education and administrative service. In 2004, she secured first position across the country in the CBSE Pre-Medical Test. She then completed her MBBS from AIIMS Delhi and began working as a doctor.
While working in a rural area during her MBBS, Sheena saw poverty and related social problems from close quarters. After this, she decided to enter the administrative service. She believed that through administrative responsibility, work could be done on a wider scale on issues related to education, health and social development.
Sheena appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination for the first time in 2009, but could not clear the preliminary examination. She made a comeback in her next attempt and, in 2010, secured the 305th rank and was selected for the Indian Revenue Service. She then made another attempt. In the results of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2011, Sheena Agarwal secured All India Rank 1.
According to the report, she is today a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre. Her story is an example of changing careers from the medical field to the administrative service and of sustained effort.
