CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A fresh dispute has emerged within Maharashtra’s ruling Mahayuti alliance after a Shiv Sena leader from the Eknath Shinde faction warned the BJP that his party could withdraw from power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) if alleged irregularities and exploitation of poor residents are not addressed. The warning has brought internal differences within the alliance into focus.
Shiv Sena BMC group leader Amey Ghole alleged that rent controllers and colony officers were demanding between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh from people in connection with housing-related matters. He described the alleged collection as an injustice against ordinary citizens and claimed that files concerning people’s rightful homes were being subjected to financial demands.
Ghole said the Shiv Sena had repeatedly raised the issue before the standing committee but alleged that no effective action had been taken. He warned that the party would not remain part of the committee until action was taken against those responsible. He also declared that Shiv Sena would be prepared to leave power rather than tolerate injustice against economically weaker citizens.
The development is significant because the BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena currently share power in Mumbai’s civic administration. The latest confrontation reflects continuing tensions between the two alliance partners over governance, accountability and local political control.
The warning could further intensify negotiations within the Mahayuti and place pressure on the administration to address the allegations.
