CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: India completed a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-match T20 series against Afghanistan. After the series win, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer made a gesture during the trophy ceremony that is being widely praised on social media.
After reaching the stage to receive the trophy, Iyer also called Afghanistan captain Ibrahim Zadran to join him. The two lifted the trophy together, and Zadran later also joined the Indian team in the winners’ photograph.
Shreyas Iyer’s gesture is being seen as an example of sportsmanship and respect for the opposition. Notably, India had won the third T20 match by 127 runs to seal the series 3-0. Despite that, Iyer included the Afghanistan captain in the victory celebrations.
After the visuals emerged, cricket fans were also reminded of Ajinkya Rahane’s gesture in 2018, when, after Afghanistan’s historic Test debut, he invited the Afghan captain and players to be part of the Indian team’s victory photograph.
Iyer’s gesture drew appreciation across the cricketing world. While the Indian team won the series and the trophy, the trophy ceremony also sent a message of respect and friendship between players of both teams. At the conclusion of the series, played under the name “Friendship Cup,” the moment became a major talking point on social media.
