CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: World Sickle Cell Awareness Day was celebrated by the Department of Pediatrics at AIIMS Bhopal under the guidance of Executive Director Dr. Ajay Singh. The event also saw collaboration from the Departments of Pathology, Medical Oncology and Hematology, Orthopedics, and AYUSH.

This year’s theme, “Tell It Loud,” emphasized multidisciplinary care and the active participation of all stakeholders in supporting individuals affected by sickle cell disease.

Chief Guest Dr. Ajay Singh, in his inaugural address, stated that “genetic awareness among school children and pre-marital counseling can help in the prevention of sickle cell disease.” Dr. Mayank Dixit spoke about empathy-based healthcare services, while Prof. Bhavna Dhingra appreciated the efforts to develop AIIMS Bhopal as a Center for Hemoglobinopathies.

On this occasion, the “Sickle Saathi” booklet was also released, which contains valuable information for patients and their families. Winners of poster making, painting, and quiz competitions were also felicitated.

The program concluded in the presence of faculty, residents, and patients from various departments. Dr. Kirti Swarnkar delivered the vote of thanks, and pamphlets were distributed. AIIMS Bhopal continues to play a leading role in patient care, awareness, and research.
