CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah met Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary KC Venugopal in New Delhi on Monday over the alleged sting video controversy. During the meeting, he expressed serious concern over the damage caused to his public image by the video and over the direction of the police investigation. According to sources, Siddaramaiah said his name was being dragged into the controversy, although he had no connection with the entire episode.
Sources said Siddaramaiah also raised before the party leadership the issue that, instead of identifying those who made and circulated the video, the investigation was focusing more on questioning other people. He demanded a fair and effective inquiry into the matter. He said the controversy had damaged not only his personal reputation but also the image of the Congress.
Siddaramaiah reportedly also linked the episode to the Congress’s defeat in the recent elections to four Legislative Council seats. He expressed apprehension that the controversy may have had a political impact on the party’s performance. However, details of these discussions were not officially shared by the party.
In this case, Siddaramaiah has already described the video as false and fabricated. He has lodged a complaint with the police and has also obtained relief from the court to stop the broadcast of the video. Police are investigating the matter.
After the meeting, Siddaramaiah publicly said he had discussed Karnataka’s development, political circumstances and organisation-related issues, but denied any discussion on the sting controversy. As a result, details of the issues raised during the meeting have emerged mainly through sources.
